Hosur airport and the Hosur metro: what is real, what is pending
Two projects that move Krishnagiri district land prices on every headline. This page keeps a dated log of what has actually been decided, what has been refused, and what is still a proposal — so you can price only the first.
Status last checked 15 October 2026 against the sources listed at the foot of this page.

Status log (dated)
The short answer, as of 15 October 2026: neither project is approved. The airport has a chosen site and a site-clearance application, but the Centre has twice declined the airspace it needs. The metro link has a feasibility study and political support in Tamil Nadu, but no approved detailed project report and no Karnataka-side commitment.

| Nov 2025 | Tamil Nadu files a site-clearance application with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (about 2,300 acres). | Deccan Herald |

| Aug 2026 | Tamil Nadu's budget speech says the state is still pursuing a Hosur–Bommasandra metro link, after BMRCL rejected the proposal earlier in the year. | Swarajya |
| 15 Oct 2026 | No published clearance for the airport and no approved DPR for the metro link found in our search on this date. | SUYUG review |
Reported land area differs between reports — roughly 2,000, 2,300 and 2,979 acres have all been printed — which is itself a sign that the project boundary is not yet fixed.
The two shortlisted sites
TIDCO, the state’s industrial development corporation, began with five candidate sites and narrowed them to two: Berigai–Bagalur, and Belagondapalli, near the existing Taneja Aerospace airstrip. The obstacle study reported in mid-2025 favoured the first. Later reports place the finalised site in Shoolagiri taluk.
Village-level boundaries have been reported (one report names twelve villages and about 3,000 acres for acquisition), but no acquisition notification has been published that we could find. Until one is, treat any “airport-facing” plot as marketing language rather than a location fact. Local context for the area is on our Bagalur and Hosur locality pages.
The KIA concession and the 150 km rule
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport operates under a concession agreement that, as widely reported, bars a new airport within a 150 km aerial radius until 2033. That clause, not land or money, is the first gate any Hosur airport has to pass.
In February 2025 the Centre said the operator, the Union and Tamil Nadu would need to reach a consensus. We found no report that the clause has since been waived or renegotiated. The airspace refusals of 2026 are a second, separate gate: HAL’s defence airspace over Hosur.
So the honest answer to “can it open before 2033?” is: only if the concession is renegotiated and the airspace objection is resolved. Neither has happened yet.
Capacity and build time
The announced plan speaks of capacity for around 3 crore (30 million) passengers a year. That is a design ambition, not a sanctioned figure.
Greenfield airports in India typically take several years from final clearance to first flight — land acquisition, the techno-economic report, bidding, construction and licensing all sit in sequence. The clock for Hosur has not started, because final site clearance has not been granted. Any completion year you see quoted today is a guess.
Bommasandra–Hosur metro: the proposal and its two versions
The Yellow Line to Bommasandra is running — it opened on 10 August 2025. What does not exist is any extension across the state border.
CMRL commissioned a feasibility study for a Bommasandra–Hosur link; the earlier proposal described a 20.5 km corridor split as 11.7 km in Karnataka and 8.8 km in Tamil Nadu. Reporting in 2026 describes a 23 km, 12-station version. BMRCL rejected the cross-border proposal earlier in 2026 and is reported to be studying its own extension only as far as Attibele. Tamil Nadu’s August 2026 budget says it is still pursuing the link with the Centre and Karnataka.
An interstate metro needs both states and the Centre to agree on alignment, cost-sharing and operator. None of the three has been settled.

What land buyers should and should not price in
- Price in: what exists today — Hosur’s industrial employment base, the Yellow Line terminus at Bommasandra, the existing highway, and the road projects that have funded contracts.
- Do not price in: an airport opening date, or a metro station at your plot. Neither has been approved.
- Check the title, not the headline. A plot’s value rests on its approvals, its conversion and its access road. Those you can verify today.
- Ask the seller for the document. If a brochure says “near the new airport”, ask which notification it means.
If you want land on this corridor priced on what is already true, compare our villa plots on the Sarjapur–Bagalur side and read how the Satellite Town Ring Road fits in.
FAQ
Questions buyers ask
Has the Hosur airport been approved?
No. As of 15 October 2026, Tamil Nadu has chosen a site and applied for site clearance, but the Centre declined the airspace request in early 2026, citing HAL defence airspace. TIDCO says it will resubmit a revised report.
Where exactly will the Hosur airport be?
The two shortlisted sites were Berigai–Bagalur and Belagondapalli, near the Taneja Aerospace airstrip. Later reports say the state finalised a site in Shoolagiri taluk. No land-acquisition notification has been published that we could find.
Can an airport open near Bengaluru before 2033?
Only if the Bengaluru airport concession's 150 km aerial-radius clause, reported to run until 2033, is renegotiated or waived. The Centre said in February 2025 that the parties would need a consensus; we found no report that one has been reached.
Is the Bengaluru metro being extended to Hosur?
Not yet. The Yellow Line ends at Bommasandra. Tamil Nadu is pursuing a cross-border link, but BMRCL rejected the proposal in 2026 and is studying an extension only to Attibele. There is no approved detailed project report.
Will the Hosur airport raise plot prices in Bagalur?
Nobody can say honestly. The airport is not approved, so any premium priced on it today is speculation. Value a plot on its title, approvals, access and the infrastructure that already exists.
